DVD Burner help?

I'm not sure if my laptop came with a DVD burner. It's a Dell Inspiron 1501 running on Window's Vista. When I insert a blank DVD, it does not recongnize it. It just says "Insert writable disk into drive E".

When I look on the side of my laptop where you put the disk in, it says "Compact Disk Rewritable Ultra Speed" and "DVD ROM". I was told to right click My Computer, select properties, then Device Manager, and look under "DVD/CD-ROM Driver" When I click on that, all it says is "HL-DT-ST CDRW/DVD GCCT10N ATA Device"

That's all I know. Also, my computer came with a program called "Roxio" and it allows you to make a movie, and gives you an option to burn it. My computer also came with "Windows DVD Maker", and it gives you that option, too. I don't know why it would have these programs if you can't even get the movie off your computer. I made a slide show using Roxio for my 3 yr old niece's birthday, and I just need help transferring it to DVD form. Thanks

It is a DVD/CD-RW. This means it can only Burn CDs and Read DVD Media. When you insert a blank DVD, it will look for something on it. Since it's blank, it wont recognize it.

Vista comes preloaded with a lot of built-in software and Windows DVD Maker is one of them. This software is available for anyone that has a DVD-RW installed.

Roxio comes with a lot of options that will let you make Music and Data CDs. If you have a DVD-RW, you can take advantage of writing to DVDs.

If you go to http://support.dell.com, you can look up your computers original configuration under the warranty section of the page. You will need to type in your 7-alpha numerical digit ServiceTag.
