Is Sony Alpha A200 a good idea for my first DSLR?
It's my first ever DSLR.
Does it take good quality pictures?
If you have one can you show me some sample pictures from it (your best photography from the alpha a200) so that I can see what kind of quality it produces?
Also:
Can you take pictures on it without it having a memory card in it? (does it have internal memory?)
and does it have liveview?
if it doesn't have liveview, does this mean you cannot view your pictures taken on it on the screen once they have been taken?
The question is this. is the Sony camera system the best one for me? If you have a Minolta camera system, then yes, it is actually your only choice if you want to use the lenses you already own.
Seeing photos shot with various cameras only show you the skills of the photographer using it, not the abilities of the camera.
I have no clue why you would want memory in the camera itself. First memory continues to become less and less expensive and can right faster and faster as time goes on. 2GB cards now cost less that $15 each, so buying a couple is not a big deal.
You can view your photos after you take them on any DSLR's LCD.
Live view is only important if you are a scientist and have your camera attached to a telescope or microscope. Trying to use a DSLR like a P&S, holding a two pound camera at arm's length using the LCD as a poor viewfinder is almost laughable, but for the fact that so many people think that way. DSLR's are tools for taking photos in the traditional way. Controlling the exposure and image composition using all the features of the camera; f/stop, shutter speed, lens selection, ISO and white balance as well as adding creative vision to the images.
More good data to ingest before you spend your money.
