Memory card basics for the new guys
A memory stick is a term exclusively related to Sony's memory format also know as memory stick duo or memory stick pro. Of all types of memory card available, the memory stick is widely regarded as the most reliable and commonly used memory card in the world alongside SD memory units.
As with any type of memory storage, a memory stick allows you to store your data and take it anywhere you want to go. With many electronic devices making using of memory sticks for additional storage, you will find it easier to transfer data to and from your PC via memory card reader rather than using conventional ways through software and USB cable.
In this article I will discuss the many other benefits this memory type can provide you as well as give you an insight into choosing the right brand and type for your needs.
Backup all your personal files
Many people do not take the time to backup there personal data in the believe that all data is safe whether it be on a mobile device or there personal computer. With memory sticks coming in various storage sizes it would make sense to regularly make backups of your files to prevent data being lost in future for any amount of reasons. Due to there small size and sturdiness the memory stick can be carried around with you whether it be taken to work or used to store your favourite music and photos. These types of memory cards have a fast transfer speed and come in size ranging from 1GB storage all the way up to 18GB and more.
From A to B easily.
Unlike other types of memory device on the market the memory stick is a hardy piece of equipment. If you accidentally drop your card or find liquid comes in contact, in a lot of cases everything still works fine. With these benefits it makes perfect sense to use this type of memory unit to go from point a to point b. Although you can purchase USB memory units that can provide the same storage capacity as this memory unit, they are in most cases fragile pieces of equipment that are plagued with compatibility problems. If you have access to a memory card reader, simply insert your stick of memory, transfer data, and your done! No more carrying around portable hard drives and CD discs.
Compatible with many electronic devices.
Many electronic devices from mobile phones to digital cameras allow you to insert your memory for additional storage. With this in mind, once you are done using your device it is just a case of removing the card, inserting to a card reader and gaining instant access to your video and pictures for playback. Unlike cassette mediums a memory stick allows for high quality recordings and pictures that do not lose quality every time you use the card.
Finding the best memory cards
There are many popular brands of memory duo cards on the market. Obviously the Sony branded types offer reliability as well as great storage capacity. SanDisk is another company that offers this type of memory that is not only just as reliable but comes at a more affordable price meaning there is no reason why you should not consider purchasing a memory unit of this type. To find the best deals check online as well as at your local electronics store. A careful note for those searching online is to make sure your purchase your card from a legitimate source. Due to the increased popularity of this memory format many illegal copies are sold on the black market that are unreliable and faulty in many cases.
