memory card question for photography?

I have a dslr and trying to understand what the benefits of a faster memory card is compared to a cheaper one. Why would I want to get 32GB Extreme III Secure Digital Sd High Capacity Card, what will this improve for myself taking photographs. The card is just an example. Whats with the extreme lll

If you shoot alot in burst mode you might want a faster writing card. The buffer on the camera may fill up before the card accepts all the information.
