How do I turn an internal hard drive into an external one?
What do I need to put an internal hard drive into in order to use it as an external hard drive?
Our iMac logic board died (1 month out of warranty) and we replaced the computer. But the hard drive is still good and I want to use it as a backup to the new iMac. I know how to remove the hard drive, but what sourt of case do I need to put it into and is there anything else I need to do to use it as an external hard drive?
You may want to format it, so as not to have the operating system in the way.
You must by a casing, that is compatible with your size and type of hard disk.
Besides, depending on the size, brand and type of your hard disk, you may need a power source - it will be supplied with the case.
To determine what type of hard disk you have, consult the info on the back of it (it will be either SATA I / SATA II or the older version of hard disks - IDE
