got one antenna got multi. tvs can I get one box to work all when other tvs are on different channels? Thanks?
Got 6 tvs in this household and it's kind of an old fashioned commune and we all like to watch tv in our own private areas. One likes reality and one likes sitcoms and I like public. We need a box that can do multi stations. We only got 6 stations . thanks for the help folks!
I take it you are referring to HDTV, right? If so, then you need a converter box for EACH set on which you want to watch a different channel. The converter simply takes the place of the tuner which is built into the TV set, much like a video tape recorder and watching a video tape by setting to channel 3. Having a common antenna for multiple TV sets presents a problem unless you have a amplified signal distribution system. The problem comes in by splitting the signals received by the antenna, the more you split the signal, the more sets are hooked to the antenna, the weaker the signal each set gets. You can drive more than one set from a VCR, or the HDTV converter, but all of the sets hooked to a single VCR or converter are locked into what the VCR or converter is tuned to, which is why you need a converter for EACH set. They do not yet make converters capable of tuning and distributing multiple channels, at least not that I am aware of. I have heard of very expensive digital video recorders being able to watch one channel while recording another, but that is not multiple channels on multiple sets from the same converter unit.
