the Panasonic SDR-S50 has a max shutter speed of 1/8000 of a sec is that good?
I was looking to buy a camcorder and was looking at the Panasonic SDR-S50 and wanted to know if that was a good buy I don't know anything about camcorders
I agree with Scott... And you should know that manual shutter speed setting is only one, of many things to consider. My camcorder can be set to 1/10,000, but that is only useful under full, bright, daylight... Anything else and there is not enough light hitting the imaging chip system
Lens filter diameter, imaging chip size, amount of compression applied to the digital video stream before recording to whatever storage media, manual audio control, how other manual functions are accessed, and other available features you need (built-in infrared emitter, high speed video capture for slow speed playback, external audio connection, standard definition vs high definition video, AV pass-through or AV-in capabilities, among many others) also contribute a lot to deciding which camcorder to get...
And the SDR-S50 is a hard disc drive based camcorder - so you need to know they do not do well in high vibration (including loud music) or high altitude environments. If you plan to ever capture video under these conditions (including loud bands - whether the audio is amplified or not), the S50 is not a good idea.
But your first task is to understand your budget. $200 won't get you too far.
