Having problems taking my photos off my memory card to pc.?

Ok, bought a digital camera without leads. Went to camera shop & bought the leads to connect to the USB port & then to a card reader & the pc recognises the card reader but when i put the memory card into the card reader it says there is no card in the drive??? So basically its not reading the memory card! Any ideas what i'm doing wrong or what i need to be doing to rectify this problem.

could be the card reader. they dont see all the different memory cards, be sure it will handle the one you have. and dont put it in upside down.
