how to fix and retrieve my work from a broken usb/memory stick? Pls help?
I had all my college work in my usb memory stick but i lost the memory stick somehow and found it in the bin with the metal bit broken/snapped and all i found was the half bit, couldn't find the metal bit which connects it to the pc.
So is there any way that i can get the work back as i really need it.
Do i have to find the same metal part or i can get a new one?

If your partners broke the metal part of your USB MEMORY STICK, do not go to any kadi or funeral man to join it back, look for your partner/spouse if they have any parts retained and not hidden under the bed, or in the garden, or on top of the coconut tree or beneath the dog's hut, or inside your fish aquarium, or in the mass national garbage furnace since the bin is one of the place you found it, your partners who have used your USB stick before may know where your broken parts is placed, Then you may have to ask a hardware technician to solder it back for you. This normally happens in big big families, ask them because they all share one memory stick maybe malfunction at someone's secret place known to you and only you will know where to get them back since all your partners want to keep it, get back all your parts from all diverse sources and you may be able to assemble back depending on whether you will be able to jigsaw back every lost part
TO REPAIR ON DIY METHOD
step 1 Disassemble the drive
You'll want to disassemble the flash drive with a small precision screwdriver. Gently prying at the seams of the casing until the circuit board is exposed. Then pull the plastic off and make sure that the USB leads are exposed.
step 2 Get all the repair Tools ready
Most of the tools should be available almost within hands reach.

-Reading Glasses (these come in real handy when you need two free hands to solder but they are
optional)
-Electrical Tape
-Desoldering Tool of Choice

Dedsolder the points that need to be replaced.
step 4Soldering
At this point, your leads should be desoldered and ready to be attached.
Take the soldering iron and solder away. Make sure that you have some way of magnifying the leads. This is where I used my reading glasses. I don't use them, they're my dad's. But they magnify the leads pretty well and make them a heck of a lot easier to see.
step 5Reassembly
Reattach the two halves of plastic that you pried off in step 2; making sure that you don't wiggle the circuit board during reassembly. Then wrap the plastic and circuit board in electrical tape until you can make a suitable housing for the board.
step 6Test & Relax-try until you can read back all your contacts database and pictures in your thumbdrive
Make sure that you test the drive after reassembly. You want to check for any shorts. If there are any, disassemble the drive and find the shorts repeating steps 3-6 until fixed.
If it has or happened to you, you know the feeling, and when you're done you can relax. At least until you have to make a new housing for it. Which is a different Instructable almost entirely.
